RESUMO

The current study describes the planning, implementation and assessment of a proposal for an intervention with music therapy resources on an elderly group, users of a basic health center in the peripheral suburbs of Campinas. The selection criteria were the elderly with light cognitive modification, non-demented people, and with complaints about memory. The study, which lasted 6 months, comprised the following phases: 1) data gathering individually, 2) intervention on group and 3) checking of the effects on subjective well-being promotion through self-reports. There were 24 subjects, aged 57-86 years, both sexes, referred by professionals from the center. The data were gathered through a semi-structured interview entitled musical experience inventory comprising: socio-demographic data, preferences, music background and receptivity. According to the frequency of the answers, a musical collection was defined for the development of music therapy practices, sensitive and adequate to the cultural features and identities of this group and also administered with Folstein´s Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE, 1975). The intervention aimed at the optimization of cognitive sphere, opportunity of social contact and cultural participation of the elderly. The practices were compiled in a descriptive manual showing several sound rhythm musical resources used which aim at providing incentive to the language, memory, audio perception and body schema. At last, the effects in the subjective well-being of the elderly were verified, categorized in three domains: positive affects, social interaction and evocations. The result showed that the music therapy activity, culturally sensitive, is a helpful instrument to provide well-being for the elderly, in a context of basic health centers
