RESUMO

This experiment was carried ut a commmercial ortchard situated in the town of PerdÃes, southern Minas Gerais State, to evaluate the effect of Ethephon in the chemical thinning out of âPonkanâ tangerine fruits was aimed.The experimental randomized block design with eight treatments, in two developmental stages of the fruits: diameter of 0.5 to 1.0 cm ( denominated â small leadâ ) and diameter of 2,0 cm (denominated âoliveâ), four dosages of ethephon being tedted, by utilizing the commercial chemical ETHREL ( 2- cloroetilfosfÃnic acid), comparing with the control (0,0 mg L â1 water), 100 mg L â1, 200 mg L â1 and 400 mg Lâ1 was used. Three useful plants per plot with four replicates, amouting to 96 plants were utilized. The volume of the manual back sprayer , with an empty conical jet beak. The first application was perfomed on November 14 th when the fruits were at the phenological âsmall leadâ and the second application on december 12 th with the fruits at the âoliveâ stage. Use of ethephon in the chemical thinning out of the âPonkanâ tangerines, at the dosage of 400 mg L-1 at the stage âoliveâ provided a significan increase on the weight of the fruits. The developmental stage did not influence the values of pH and soluble solids . For an acidity and SS/AT ratio, the best result was for the âsmall leadâ stage.
