RESUMO

This study is part of the intersection of the field of public health with the social sciences, and serves up this fruitful dialogue to address issues of obesity psicologic perspective. The purpose of research is to identify the social representations of morbidy obese patients in an unfavorable economic-social situation at the bariatric surgery clinic and the eating disorder in HUWC/UFC, as well as understand how to face daily questions about what food means in point of view and what affective representations on copinig with issues related to obesity. Concerning the route methodological reseach is based on the theory of social representations, their nature is the ultimate quality, but has two quantitatives steps.been chosen for a sample of 100 patients followed in outpatient clinics above. As instrumets of data collection, the study is divided into three phases: 1- Test of free association of words; 2- Demografhic questionnaire, 3 - Through structured interviw. The test of free association of words with four stimulus: pain, body, eating and himself; whose analysis of data were processed using the software tri-deux-mots nterpreted by correspondence factor analysis. Beside, in association with this test we used a questionnaire to obtais demografhicsocial profile of the groups, as well as a semistructured collection of testimonials that compenplated the universe census, 10% of the participants during the sampling concept to discursive saturation. The analysis of interview be through by techinique of content analysis categories and themes. The representations of the participants seized are expressed and discussed in five thematic areas : when suffering is revealed; representation of the body, eating too much, and preception in the body; food how supression of deficiencies. As a result, it is from this study that the social representations show that the food is in fact clsely linked to emotions, express care, love, celebration. Therefore, food can become an valve system in various situations, leaving its essential role of nutrition in a plane quite secondary.
