RESUMO
The residues disposal in Water Treatment Stations (WTS) has received greater attention in Brazil during the last few years. Disposing these residues, called WTS sludges, in a environmentally correct way ins viewed as a challenge faced for the water utility companies. It has been a long time, the destination of these sludges use to be the courses of water close to the stations. However, this practice has been called into question by National Environmental Institutes, which are restricting and, even though, forbidding this kind of final disposal. This study had the objective of showing the existing alternatives for final disposal of residues from WTS. It was also analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively the residues produced in the Water Treatment Station of Itabirito city, Minas Gerais, Brazil. These data will be useful for future works aiming to adequate the stations produced residues and the feasibility study of treatment techniques application too.
