RESUMO

Exploratory descriptive study on a quantitative basis which objectives were:Identify the index of the quality of life of pregnant women, using an adaptation of the Ferrans and Powers instrument, identify the index of the quality of life on pregnant women in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters of gestation, analyze if the index variation in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters. The sample was made after 198 pregnant women which had made pre-natal exams in two basic health centers, in the country side of Sao Paulo State, in 2005. Socio demographic data can be distinguished as follows: average age 25,69 years, the majority completed high school (52,50%); 62,40%were married and 38,9% lived with their spouses and kids, the percentage of employed and unemployed was identical: 50%; the average income of R$423,48. The obstetric characteristics were: the majority (62,12%) had more than one gestation, 44,94% were in their first gestation, the majority never had an abortion (80,80%) and 35,35% had on child alive and 18,68% two or more. The majority 95,95% had a low risk gestation. The General Alfa Cronbach coefficient found was 0,8348, what can be considered satisfactory . In the internal consistency analysis, taking the four domains into consideration, the lowest was the family domain: 0,5712, followed by social /economic, 0,6566. The health and psychological/spiritual domains were the highest: 0,7318 and 0,7304 respectively. The items 31: Your faith in God(28,28); 29: Having this child (28,50); 12: Your children (28,46) and your pregnancy (27,81) were the ones with better marks. The average of General IQV was 23,84 and marks of the domains presented a variation of 21,44 and 27,24. The family domain presented the highest score of quality of life (27,24), the psychological/spiritual 26,00 and the health (23,27), also the social/economic presented the lowest rate(21,44).Comparing the gestation trimesters the IQV of the family domain presented a statistic difference between 1st trimester and 3rd. Those from the 1st presented better quality of life index. There is a tendency of difference between those from the 1st compared to the 2nd, but there was no difference from those from the 2nd and the 3rd. The pregnant women analyzed in the 1st trimester presented better quality of life index but there was no difference comparing those from the 2nd and 3rd. Analyzing the General IQV, there was an statistics difference between pregnant women of the 1st an 2nd trimesters. Those from the 1st presented better quality of life index. There was no significant difference comparing pregnant women from the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, as well as those from 1st and 3rd.
