RESUMO

The wavelet transform equipped with the multiresolution analysis has been offered as an efficient tool in the investigation of non stationary signals derived from a plenty of areas. The development of new âbasisâ so as to implement such techniques has the aim of enlarging the span of suitable choices for a particular purpose. This thesis introduces new families of wavelets and scale functions, in both the continuous and discrete time domain, algorithms to perform their computational implementation, focusing on prospective applications to electrical power systems. In particular, we have proposed: the Gabor-SchrÃdinger wavelets derived from Fourier eigenfunctions; âde Oliveiraâ scale and wavelet functions built from a generalization of Shannon wavelets; Fourier and Hartley-like wavelets assisted by the Hilbert transform and conceived from an analogy between the kernels of the Fourier and Hartley transforms; and Gegenbauer filter banks derived from relating Gegenbauer polynomials and multiresolution filters, which encompass Haar, Legendre and Chebyshev filters. Among potential applications in the electrical power systems framework, the following matter are stressed: fault analysis, harmonic analysis, multiple event detecting, active and reactive power stratification and imaging processing techniques for monitoring unassisted plants
