RESUMO

This study is aimed to review existing processes to produce zinc metal and evaluate parameters of bio and direct leaching of zinc sulfide concentrates. The experiments, carried out in bench scale, continuous and batch tests, have objective to investigate several parameters during the bioleaching and chemical leaching of zinc concentrates from Votorantim Metais, Brazil. During the bioleaching step, it was studied the following parameters: Eh, ferrous and ferric concentrations, particle sizing and retention time. In the chemical leaching after bioleaching, it was studied the effects of different concentrations of Fe, acidity, retention time, solid concentrations, in addition of the influence of the reagent Sodium Lignosulfonate. The results in general have demonstrated to be possible to have a new zinc process to reach zinc extraction of 97.5% without treatment by conventional processes, as Roasting-Leaching, Zinc Pressure Leaching or Complete Zinc Atmospheric Leaching, reducing, in this case, simultaneous operational and investment costs. These results were obtained when the system operated in a integrated process of bioleaching and chemical leaching, with high acidity and sizes of the concentrate with 85% less 20m. It was possible to obtain an equilibrated mass balance, when the new process was analyzed during integration with technology RLE (Roasting-Leaching-Electrolysis), in order to reach usual concentrations to feed existent Electrolysis for Zinc.
