RESUMO

The objective of the paper is to analyze the strength profile of a multi-pass junction in the ZAC and MS regions. The process which has been used takes into account the Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), and refers to the standard welding procedure within the manufactured material. The welding maximum strength with a thermal input of 19,44 kJ/cm has been considered. Its microstructure characteristics has been analyzed by MO and MEV. The structural steel selected for this study was the ASTM A 516 GR. 60, which is well appropriate for oxidized pressure vessel welding by using stress with H2S. Employing stress to the cold and oxidized cracks represents the main problem to this particular steel concerning the welding process. In order to minimize this kind of crack, it is necessary to prevent high values of strength in the ZAC and MS regions. The material strength profile concerning macro-graphic and metal-graphic analysis has been conducted within the welding process to work out its properties. The profile has been compared to the maximum strength values in the ZAC region, which were got by the equations from Yurioka, Terasaki and Suzuki, by using a software for welding analysis (SOLDASOFT). The results obtained in this analysis showed values related to micro-strength in the ZAC and MS regions. These values are consistent to the ones concerning the microstructures which has been observed, and are compatible to the proposed models and also to the requirements related to the project of the equipment
