RESUMO

The mothers and pregnant health have narrows relationship with their childrens health, and the socioeconomic condition interferes in an important way in the profile of those varied. Alagoas is the state more poor of Union and, in the internal context, its population of the semi-arid area still meets in conditions of social and economical vulnerability in level larger than the other population contingents of the State. Before that, it had aimed at to elaborate a diagnosis of the conditions of mothers and pregnant health resident in that area, identifying the main risk factors associated. Starting from a probabilistic sample were collected, demographic, socioeconomic, anthropometrics and health data of 1180 mothers, 1511 smaller children 10 years old and of 150 pregnant. The data had typed in double independent entrance using the program Epi-info 3.2.2 and statistically analyzed by SPSS version 13.0. The lineal regression analysis was accomplished with all the variables that presented correlation of Pearson lesser than 0.7. They were considered significant the associations that presented after regression lineal multiple analysis p<0.05. The first article called: Women of short stature present a greater prevalence of obesity and hypertension and undernourished sons: probabilistic study in the semi-arid region of Alagoas, Northeast investigated the pattern of mothers of low stature health (1st quartile) and of their children differed of those of normal stature (4th quartile). After multivariate regression analysis, the following variables if they correlated to the low maternal stature: mothers largest age (p<0.001), to smallest age of the menarche (p<0.05), not to live with companion (p<0.05), inferior maternal education to 4 years (p=0.017), origin of the water of drinking different from the public net or mineral bottled (p=0.005), obesity (p=0.001), visceral adiposity seen by the relationship waist-hip (p=0.006), superior systolic blood pressure to 140 mmHg (p=0.007); and regarding their childrens health the largest risk of low birth weight (p=0.003) and smaller stature-for-age (p=0.032). Being like this, the low stature maternal, strong predictor of malnutrition in the beginning of the life, represented a factor of independent risk for the mothers health and of their 10-year-old smaller children in the semi-arid area of Alagoas. The second entitled article: Prevalence and factors associated to the anemia in pregnant women of the semi-arid area of Alagoas, Brazil-2007 had objective knows the anemia prevalence as well as their risk factors among ix resident pregnant of the area referred already. The anemia had diagnosed by the determination of the hemoglobin level (Hemocue), considering anemic mothers which presented inferior level of hemoglobin in 11g/dL. The anemia prevalence was around 50%. Most of the pregnant (80%) made prenatal attendance, however only 17.6% used the iron supplementation. After multiple linear regression analysis, the factors associated to anemia were the largest number of members in the family (p=0.022), to pregnant women with smallest age (p=0.04), to smallest age of the family boss (p=0.037), does not possess toilet inside at home (p<0.001), history of sons loss caused by abortion or mortality (p<0.001), to live in the rural area (p=0,03), per capita income below the poverty line (p=0,022), pregestational weight smaller than 50kg (p=0.036) and the late beginning of the prenatal attendance (p=0.002). Therefore, half of the pregnant women investigated presented anemia, situation a lot besides of that desirable in the sense of guarantee a better pattern of health of the maternal-infantile population. Socioeconomic conditions and deficiency in the prenatal attendance contributed for this consequence.
