RESUMO

This work is intended for studying the several manners the representation of the school, the teachers and the teaching in ten literary works destined for children and adolescents in the late 20th century are constructed, as well as analyzing the complex connection between the contemporary educational institution and the children and juvenile literature production. The analysis ofthe corpus is preceded by the discussion ofthe institutions, policies and programmes to motivate the reading practice in the 1970 s, 80 s and 90 s. Thus, besides contributing to a better comprehension of the contemporary school as a mediator in the relations between the children and juvenile literature and its public, the present work aims to elucidate the aspects of the literary system which legitimate such geme in Brazil
