RESUMO

An analysis of the international oil market indicates an increasing offer and a reducing demand of heavy crude oils. On the other hand, the demand for light fuels like gasoline and diesel oil is continuosly increasing. The global environment concern is pushing the oil companies to develop new technologies and improve the existing ones in order to reduce the polutants emission and increase the combustion of these fuels. This experimental work presents satisfactory results of the conversion of clarified oils producing petroleum pitch. The process is basically composed by a heat treatment followed by a distillation and oxidation steps. It appears as a safe alternative to the use of heavy fraction with low prices In this way, the conversion of the residues generated by the FCC unities becomes feasible and with the possibility to supply the national market with valuable products like the petroleum pitch as well as light fractions
