RESUMO

Internet s advent and the revolution it has brought to the information and communication areas provoked deep changes in the economic organization of societies and affected relations between people, companies and governments; in fact, for these ones, the arrival to the "Internet age" has meant better administrative results with lower costs. Many government areas, at all levels, in Brasil and all around the world, are adopting different models of the so-called "e-gov", looking for new solutions for old problems of public administration, and trying to use information technology to come c1oser to the citizens. It is widely known that taxes administration is one of the most problematic areas of public administration at any level. This study analyses the present system of taxes administration of a county of São Paulo State and suggests a new one, with the aim to improve the service to the contributors and the performance of the area. The methodology used was Systemography, to analyse the present system and to design the new one. Results show that the new system, highly supported by information technology, can provide a much better service to the citizens, with expressive savings of time and money
