RESUMO

The mechanical processing of wood is an activity of the forest sector that generates enormous amounts of residues. It can be said that between 40 and 60% of the log volume are constituted by residues during its processing. In most of the cases, such waste are discarded at random or used as source of energy as a result of their combustion. This work had as objective to present alternatives for use of the residue of the Eucalyptus wood produced in the State of Minas Gerais manufacturing small wooden objects. Through the use of the residues generated by sawmills, wooden handicrafts can be produced, in a way to contribute to attend demands of the consumers, for the generation of job positions and enrichment of the State. In partnership with artisans associations, woodworker and COMBEM, a social program for poor children training in woodworking, a vast collection of small objects was produced presenting satisfactory results. Significant part of the manufactured POME (Eucalipts small wooden objects) presented good performance in the machining processes, which conferred excellent finishing to the artefact. The manufactured POMEs were assessed by the technicians of the Wood Workshop, in terms of the technical viability of producing such object from Eucalyptus wood. In subsequent stage, they were submitted to fairs and handicraft exhibitions, obtaining great acceptance of the public. The excellent acceptance of the visitors indicated that there are possibilities of the use of the sawmills waste as raw material to produce small wooden objects from Eucalipt
