RESUMO

In this work, the H2 optimization problem constrained to stable controllers motivates a study on the geometric properties of the Routh-Hurwitz condi­tions. Through the arithmetic-geometric inequality and concepts and results of geometric programming, it is shown that is always possible to obtain an inner convex representation of the Routh-Hurwitz conditions and that for low order systems the representation is exact. This result allows the treatment of design problems with stability constraints through linear programming tech­niques and provides optimal ar sub-optimal solutions with reduced computa­tional costs. The H2 optimization problem constrained to stable controllers is then solved by the method proposed and the main conclusions of the work are presented
