RESUMO

This research indicates that the Brazilian Program Programa Universidade para Todos- PROUNI is important for low income youth not just because it aims basic academic education but because it proportionates also an upgrade in the self esteem and assertivity. It also collaborates to changes in behavior of those young persons who get engaged in it. Many young students show higher confidence in their future what is related to the Program effects. The research focus such effects as well as the importance of social and cultural capital and networks created through the engagement with the Program . A case study is developed in an IES in Salvador. This experience is used as well as research developed with support of direct interviews with young students of the Program, their parents and teachers in order to discuss life trajectories and changes registered before, during and after the scholarship they get from the PROUNI.
