RESUMO

The struggle against passion appears as the high point in the stoic adherence to the universal order. Passion is contrary to the human beings rational nature and ruins their interior harmony. Evil resides in it. However, this evil has no external cause. Since affection is a disposition of reason, passion appears as a search or a voluntary rejection for something wrongly considered as good or evil. Considering the ideal of human and cosmic perfection systematized by stoics and exemplified by their sage figure, the concern with passion was prominent in their philosophy. Their description presents contributions from both pneumatic and non-pneumatic origins. This is how we can understand a phenomenon which is at the same time interpreted as wrong judgment, excessive impulse or irrational conduct, contrary to nature
