RESUMO

The actual research is a reflection upon the concealed attributes and bounds of the participatory map-making methodology as a tool for inter-scientific exchanges between different systems of environmental knowledge. This took place during an environmental management training project for young indigenous people. To achieve these purposes, I call into question the acknowledged assets of ethnomaps" aiming at geographical visualization, and at the same time I encourage arguments concerning territorial management. I put trough analysis the educational features of mapping process seen here as a tool for environmental training courses. Thus and also trough the observation of how young Timbira indigenous employ thematic maps, I am finally able to bring into discussion their technical and political influence in the villages activities. Nevertheless, there is an examination of how the mentwajë are culturally and territorially reorganizing and re-elaborating this new knowledge by means of construing an original Timbira cartography.
