O insucesso no ensino e aprendizagem na disciplina de cálculo diferencial e integral

RESUMO

This paper was performed with the stuidents and professors of the Mecatronics Computation Chemistry Engineerings and the Science of Computation and aims at searching for indicators towards the comprehension of the high index of disapproval in the subject of Diferential Integral Calculus. Stemming from the qualitative approach, questionaires were given to the those students who did not pass the above mentioned subjects in 2001 and 2002. The questionaire had a sole objective, the diagnosis of learning difficulties in Calculus, to get to know the methods that were utilized by the students as well as their expectations related to the subject. Also, interviews were carried out with four professors that were responsible for the investigated courses seeking to identify the relevant factors of their conceptions and teaching practices viewing at the students academic development. Furthermore, the technique of documental analysi the debate was used in order to discover the teaching proposition of the above mentioned subject by those professors. The preliminary analysis of the data points out to the relevance of the traditional teaching and study towards the learning of Integral Diferential Calculus. The data shows that the teaching method on which the subject is based is a determining factor in the student s failure in differential and integral calculus. Not the only factor, but a relevant one, and one which should be considered in relation to academic success.
