The objective of this research is to identify the principal processes and actors responsible to make Brasil the world leader of the recycling of aluminium can since 2001. The production of can is characterized by the intensive use of energy, of capital and technology and it is one of the most modern field of industry. The can was made for the first time in the United States in 1959 and its inventor Bill Coors, created also the sistem cash for can. The Brazilian production began only in 1989, and the company Latasa began to support the recycling in 1991. The production and the recycling of cans in our country has been characterized by a fast increase and by an environment of changes in the productive structure of the country, of economic opennes, of technological modernization and globalisation. It is in this environment that emerges the can picker, someone who picks can to sell and earn money. In the productive chain of can, he is the focus of our study. The results of the research show that despite the recycling process, there has been an increase in the production of the aluminium, so that it is proposed to change the word recycling for the word reindustrialization. The research also shows that the can pickers income is an irregular, seasonal and complementary one wich means not sufficient to make him leave this kind of work.
