RESUMO

Studies involving the investigation of the development of oral argumentative habilities in children consider the possibilities of anticipation of counter-arguments, that is, anticipation of objection or perspectives against the argument, as a later occurrence in the development. This study has investigated the precocious emergency of opposite conducts in childrenâs interaction, especially the counter-argumentative conducts, by verifying the possibility of anticipation of counter-arguments by the child in his/her own discourse, focusing on the forms and types of opposition which appear in the childâs speech. The analysis of collected data was micro analytical and carried out through video graphic transcriptions of twenty protocols extracted during situations of meals with four children(two boys and two girls) from 2 to 4 years old (more precocious age group than the one portrayed by the actual literature). The analysis of results made possible the comprehension of how the argumentative strategies made by children are put into practice within the family. The opposite conducts developed by the children involve justifications to the affirmations and disagreements, the possibility of counter-argument affirmations or points of view to the ones who had stated them, as well as anticipating counter-arguments (oppositions for the positions themselves). When the child incorporates the interlocutorâs argument, dislocates it from the situation in use, in order to deny it or negotiate it, building up his/her justifications and explanations, having as a support his/her opposite conducts towards arguments elaborated by the other person (proponent), which had previously been addressed to the child. By putting him/herself in the interlocutorâs perspective, the child takes to him/her the voice which he/she attributes as being the other oneâs. Taking the other oneâs perspective means, in many situations, taking the other oneâs argument. So, thereâs a possibility of anticipations of counter-arguments to their own positions. The analysis of data has shown us that the children who were investigated are able to anticipate contrary positions to their own argument, within their own discourse
