RESUMO

This qualitative, exploratory research focused the relationship âmusician-body-instrumentâ in the teaching-learning process context. It aimed at investigating body meanings according to the perspective of teachers of musical instruments; bodily related problems in the teachinglearning process, their possible causes; and describing pedagogical procedures towards the body. The method comprised semi-structured and group interview. Ten teachers varying musical instruments â who teach students of different ages, mostly adolescents, were interviewed at length. Besides, three group interviews were also undertaken. Results reveal that the body influences teachersâ pedagogical practice procedures. A number of bodily related problems â of physical, mental and emotional order â were pointed out. These results suggest that music learning should encompass all these dimensions. According to the results, the body, in the teaching learning process of musical instruments, is limited to a pedagogic structure which is based almost solely on teachersâ practical experience. Musiciansâ sickness process seems to start in the very first moments of learning. This points out the need to change pedagogical procedures and to review the fundamentals of the teaching-learning process of musical instruments.
