RESUMO

This research aims discute and do contemporany dance base on a theoretical, technical, formal and poetic framework originated from patterns typical of expressions of the Brazilian popular culture. This work systematizes the investigation process of methodological procedures for body preparation and the creation process in the language of Brazilian Contemporary Dance. The main hypothesis of this present work is that there is a "limial body" in the capoeira Angola and in sambas de umbigada (batuque, jongo, tambor de crioula and samba de roda) that get new meanings in São Paulo city (southern Brazil) through the way they are performed. "Limial body", which transcends day-to-day life, take a place in the crossroad where the corporal identities of Banto African matrix, established in the historical process of Brazilian cultural development, are updated and recreated. It is, therefore, a body that bears powerful expressiveness and symbols. This characteristics are important in a study of the contemporary scene, because it represents a significant part of the plurality that compose Brazilian culture, and it opens up routes for new crossroads
