RESUMO

This work deals with the formulation of a unidimensional finite element model isothermal linear analysis of axisymmetric thin Shell structures, with variable thickness and under axisymmetric loadings. The element geometry is defined along the shell midsurface by a variable nodal point isopametric formulation with kinematics being represented by two translational degrees-of-freedom in the plane of symmetry. Element and conditions such as rotation fixity or rotation continuity between adjoining elements are imposed in the formulation by using a penalty procedure. Coupling between rotation and translational degrees-of-freedom is granted in the model with the assumption that straight and perpendicular to the mid-surface after deformation. The element formulation includes linear deformations due to membrane and bending of the shell in both circumferential and longitudinal directions. The proposed model is employed in the analysis of some numerical examples and the solutions are compared to other numerical or analytical results to demonstrate the element effectiveness in the representation of axisymmetric thin shells.
