RESUMO
Bothropstoxm-I (BthTX-I), the principal myotoxm of Bothrops jararacussu venom, has myotoxic and neurotoxic activities. The ability of crotoxm antisermn and heparin in preventing the myotoxic and neurotoxic effects of BthTX-I was investigated. Mouse phrenic nerve-diaphragm preparations (PND) stimulated indirect1y with supramaximaI stimuli (0.2 ms, 0.1 Hz) were incubated with BthTX-I (20 llg/mI) alone or with BthTX-I preincubated with antisermn or heparin for 30 min at 37°C prior to testing. BthTX-I (20 1lg/mI) produced 50% neuromuscuIar blockade in PND preparatíons in 31 ::!:4 min, with complete blockade occurring in 120 min. ...Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations
