RESUMO

The research Neological formation in RAP aims to study lyrics from RAP style in Portuguese to check the kinds of neological formation that are occurring in this language style and describe them by lexicon-semantic analysis. As RAP (rhythm and poetry) is a musical style which involves rhythm and poetry, it constitutes itself as a source of research about neologism because while poetry, RAP has poetic license to create new words. In order to reach this aim, was constituted as theoretical base for this work reference books related to word formation processes, especially about neologisms, about the concept of word, linguistic structure and about semantics, belonging, respectively, to Ullmann (1964), Sapir (1969), Guiraud (1972), Câmara Júnior (1975), Alves (1990), Kehdi (1992), Lyons (1997), e Biderman (2001). Concerning to RAP, were consulted websites, books, articles and thesis belonging to Gomes e Leão (s/d), Andrade (1996), Oliveira (1999) and Magro (2002), which enabled better comprehension from the subject. The websites allowed the (contingent) collection of lyrics from RAP style songs which were used like corpus for this research. Many of them were read searching for neological formations and only some, with significant content for analysis, were selected. The terms found inthem had their meanings searched in the Internet, in websites specialized in this kind of language, and in informal interviews with people who dominate the RAP language.
