RESUMO

In this work, we are going to discuss the universe of brega music in three sections. In the first, we discuss why is it so hard to precisely define brega music. In the second section, we try to demonstrate that although the difficulty in precisely defining the territory of brega music, this musical genre has markable attributes which are capable of legitimize it as musical esthetics. Finally, we discuss the relation of power found among the intellectualized sectors about brega music, in the face of globalization. Using a qualitative methodology with emi-structured interviews, we demonstrate that brega music, although difficulties in precisely defining it, should be seen as a legitimated musical manifestation, since this genre has staked its place in front of other musical genres, and we also emphasize that although the hybrid nature of contemporaneity, aesthetic distinctions made between social sectors still continue.
