RESUMO

The study of motivacion has been object of countless researches in the field of social and human sciences in the latest years even though the theme of motivacion at work is still little explored, especially in service organizations. The general aim of this study was the analysis of work motivation of the State University of Cearà technical-administrative employees through the assessment of valencies levels, instrumentalities and expectations concerning work results, according to Victor VroomÂs Theory of Expectations, one of the dominant theories in organizational psychology that allows a better explanation and understanding of menÂs relationship with his work. The kind of research used led to a field survey in order to permit statistic treatment, aiming reliability and validity of the employees answers through the questionnaire which was the main instrument for collecting data. The research was carried out in October, 2002 at UECE capital and countryside Campi and, consisted in na specific layer of effective technical-administrative high school level and graduated employees who work at the institution and are involved in supporting activities, being the group of interest for this work. The procedure for result analysis was constituted by the frequency calculus related to valencies, instrumentalities and expectations concerning work, recognition and valuation at work, work conditions, personal and family survival and the motivacional force concerning each of them, according to VroomÂs theoric model. As the conclusions were not definitive, taking into account the complexity and subjectivity of the theme, they led to the supposition that there was a low expectation as to work results by those who answered as well as na expressive motivacional force directed to the variable âwork conditionsâ which shows how important the social relations as well as work division and organization aspects are to the employees
