RESUMO

Regular physical activity is related to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease possibly by improvement of the lipoprotein profile. But there are many deficiencies in the current knowledge in this area like at what age this benefit initiate, what is the amount and intensity of the exercises, among others. In this study we evaluated the efficiency of regular physical activity on improvement of biochemical risk factors associated to atherosclerosis development like lipoprotein composition, oxidized and estimated LDL size, the cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) and Paraoxonase (PON) activities in young-body mass index matched males. Fourth-three trained (T) (at least three times a week and 30 minutes session) and 39 non-trained (NT) individuals 18-25 years selected from graduation students at the State University of Campinas participated in this study. Cholesterol, triacylglycerol (TAG), glucose and uric acid sera were determined by enzymatic colorimetric methods and apolipoproteins A1, B100 and lipoprotein (a) by nephelometric method. The chemical composition of lipoproteins was evaluated by total, free and esterified cholesterol, TAG, phospholipids and protein determinations. The apolipoprotein profile was similar between groups but TAG and VLDL-cholesterol concentrations were statistically significant lower in T individuals. Also, CETP activity, measured by radiometric exogenous assay, was statistically significant lower in T group. Considering the chemical composition of the isolated lipoproteins obtained by ultracentrifugation (12 hours fasted serum), the total cholesterol (TC), TAG and protein in VLDL particles were significantly higher in NT. Young healthy trained males showed anti-atherogenic characteristics like decreased serum TAG, lower hepatic secretion of VLDL and LDL, increased LDL particle sizes and lower CETP activity, when compared to aged-body mass index matched non trained individuals. These results highlight the positive impact of exercises at young ages, as an important preventive factor for cardiovascular diseases. Key words: physical exercise; lipoprotein composition; oxidized LDL; CETP activity; LDL particle size
