RESUMO

Blackboard Systems are a relatively recent problem-solving framework in Distributed Artificial Intelligence. They are well-known for their cooperative, opportunistic, dynamic behavior. This work presents the Blackboard paradigm and a survey of world research results. This work also proposes ASTUTO - Archi tecture for Problem Solving Through the Use of Artificial Intelligence Techniques and Opportunism. ASTUTO follows the Blackboard paradigm, and permits its use for problem-solving in different application domains. Its approach favors the knowledge sources view of the blackboard, and an event-driven behavior, getting close to what we understand as the paradigm essence. The Enti ty-Relationship Model is for the first time used to model and implement the blackboard structure. Generic knowledge sources are proposed and implemented for the blackboard handling, as well as the control mechanism, heuristics and the system reconfiguration process
