RESUMO

Dengue is today one of most important arvobirose that affects humans and is a serious problem for public health in the world, especially in tropical countries, where environmental conditions, mainly temperature, precipitation and the habits of the population favor the presence of production beds, which allows for the development and proliferation of the Aedes aegypti, main vector of the illness. The biggest problem is that public politics directed toward the prevention and control of the vector, do not include the effective participation of the population, therefore failing and the results are the annual epidemics of dengue. Integrated management for the control of Aedes and prevention against dengue, carried out in the urban area of the District of Martinésia, Uberlândia (MG), allowed for the development of different activities relating to environment and health education, in the school and in the community, as well as action with regard to combating the mosquito with the elimination of production beds, that showed to be effective in avoiding an epidemic. The effectiveness of this approach of integrated management occurred, mainly, through the participation of the population in all the activities. Much more than this, no case of dengue occurred in the District of Martinésia in 2004 and 2005.
