RESUMO

Many studies about craftwork talk about the economic importance of craftwork productions. In fact we canât refuse the performance of the economic power of this activity in peopleâs life. But, the craftwork activity canât be understood just by this perspective. The eagerness of the craftwork trade increase made the public or private organization make an intervention. In this work we tried to make an investigation about the social symbolic changes occurred in Tope Town when a craftwork shed was implanted. The Tope, in ViÃosa Cearà is an old craftwork center well-know in the region by the production of crockery clay. Nearly, eight years ago, Tope received the implantation of a craftwork shed. In this place the craftworkers do workshops and courses oriented by Cearà Central Craftwork one of the principals institutions responsible for the politic in State. The methodology used in a participant observation, interviews semi structured, photos and filming were visited by techniques that participant directed or indirectly in an installation of the shed, the craftwork that work in the place and the ones that donât work there, work in house. In the results we can see clearly changes in shapes and models made in the shed, if we compare the works made many years ago and the works made by craftworkers in house. The existence of the shed persists although the difficulties in commercial trade of the product to other segments that isnât the Cearà Central Craftwork. So, observe that its necessary having a politic of making the craftwork more than commercial trade, watching the cultural differences and the context of the craftworkers life
