RESUMO

The study aimed to evaluate the interrelationships between risk of preeclampsia, dietary patterns, intake of calcium and other modifiable risk factors and non-modifiable in pregnant women attending a referral service in prenatal care. This is a cross-sectional study with descriptive and analytical approach, performed at the General Hospital of Fortaleza, involving 233 pregnant women in the first trimester of evolution. In the visit to the Service, the women answered a questionnaire covering, among other variables, risk factors for preeclampsia and answered the first 24-hour dietary recall, the second being collected by telephone. Endothelial function of the pregnant women was assessed by measuring flow-mediated dilation of brachial artery. The women were grouped by number of risk factors presented. The nutritional composition of diets was determined using the software DietWin Professional 2.0 and the analysis of the recalls was based on the average of the two nutrients collected. Used to the multiple comparison test to assess the difference in average consumption of nutrients as the number of risk factors and the Student t test to evaluate the difference in nutrient intake according to the assessment of endothelial function. In all tests it was adopted α <0.05 significance level. The majority (64.81%) of the women had 2-3 risk factors for disease, especially non-white race (80.69%), the nulliparity or parity (80.26%) and endothelial dysfunction (58 80%). The diet intake was low in fiber, calcium, magnesium and potassium and high in salt, sodium and in the omega 6/omega 3 fatty acid ratio. The total calcium intake (diet and supplement) was very low, below the EAR for the micronutrient with an average of 524,84 mg 295,91 mg. This low intake configures additional risk for preeclampsia. Calcium intake has shown to correlate inversely with pre-pregnancy and current body mass index, no association with other risk factors. The iron and ω6 fatty acids intake showed, respectively, direct and inverse relationship with the number of risk factors for preeclampsia. There was no significant association between dietary factors and endothelial function. It was concluded that despite the lack of statistically confirmed interrelationships between the variables, pregnant women are at risk both by the presence of modifiable risk factors and non-modifiable, such as with regard to low intake, especially calcium, among the dietary factors evaluated.
