RESUMO

The Private Reserves of the Natural Heritage (Reservas Particulares do Patrimônio Natural) (RPPN) belongs to the Brazilian System of Conservation Units, and they have a cornerstone role for nature conservation given that they allows private land owners, on their own initiative, to contribute in the establishment of new protected areas on their lands. The RPPN Serra do Tombador, the largest private reserve on the Cerrado, is located on an important region of this biome. Several studies were conducted in this area to develop a Management Plan, using a methodology of Rapid Ecological Assessment. The Management Plan provides the guidelines for management and biodiversity protection of the protected areas, proposing its zoning and regional context. The present work aims to: 1) identify areas of significant biodiversity relevance within the Reserve, 2) proposes its prezoning, 3) provides a replicable framework for this purpose, and 4) described the landscape found in the neighboring areas of the Reserve Serra do Tombador. Using the data gathered during the Rapid Ecological Assessment and modeling with spatial analysis softwares, a specialized layer of biological data was produced; this can be use to make decisions related to the Reserve zoning, presenting eight different levels of biological relevance, and allowing the delimitation of management polygons. Man altered polygons were delimitated through the classifying Landscape images, on a landscape of 20km radius from the Reserve limits. The study landscape was divided in four quadrants and 64 parcels, allowing the analysis of the altered polygons by region. Metrics of the altered polygons were used for discrimination of the main characteristics of each modified region and the dynamics for landscape conservation. Protected areas close to the Reserve are becoming isolated, such as the Parque Nacional Chapada dos Veadeiros; however, this area in the north of the Reserve has favorable characteristics to implement new protected areas or to increase the RPPNST. Parts of its edges are under intense modification and this must be considered when addressing the management e Reserve.
