RESUMO

The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the chemical properties (content of lignin, holocellulose and extratives) of five species of woody cerrado (Pterodon pubescens, Dalbergia miscolobium, Sclerolobium paniculatum, Stryphnodendron adstringens and Vochysia thyrsoidea) on the density and shrinkage the wood in income and apparent density of charcoal. The samples were collected in the Fazenda Água Limpa, from three trees of each five species, thus making a total of 15 samples: five treatments in three replicates. The density of wood ranged from 0.58 to 0.82 g/cm3, the volumetric shrinkage ranged from 11.01 to 19.45%, the content of lignin, extratives and holocellulose varied respectively from 25.16 to 32; 31%, 6.14% to 8.54 and 67.69 to 74.87%. Income gravity ranged from 24.87 to 28.67%, while the apparent density of charcoal ranged from 0.28 to 0.43%. The lignin showed positive and significant correlation with the basic density and apparent density of wood charcoal; showed no significant correlation with the volumetric shrinkage neither gravimetric income (although with the latter has indicated a positive trend). The total extratives showed no significant correlation with the density, the volumetric shrinkage, gravimetric and the apparent density yield of charcoal. Furthermore the holocellulose showed positive and significant correlation with the density of the wood, and apparent density of charcoal, but was not correlated significantly with the gravimetric yield and shrinkage volumetric of charcoal, but with the latter has shown a negative trend.
