RESUMO

The object of this study was to evaluate the marginal leakage of amalgam restoration associated or not to resinous agents, when they are submitted to brushing using differents resinous agents and differents condensation methods. With this purpose, 144 molar and pre-molar teeth were used and divided into 18 groups of 8 teeth each. Class V cavities preparation (2mm of deep x 3mm of length x 1,5 mm of width) were performed on buccal surface. The cavities were filled with Duralloy capsuled silver alloy (Degussa, SI A) by following different ways: only silver amalgam (control); amalgam associated with SBMU Plus (3M) adhesive system and amalgam associated to the Scotchbond Resin Cement (3M). The amalgam was condensed using 3 differehts technics: manual, mechanic and ultrasonic. After restored and polished, half ofthe samples were submitted to the mechanic brushing (30.000 cycles) using a Equilabor machine and after thermocycled to 500 times, being also immersed into 2% metilene blue solution for microleakage analysis and examined in a stereoscopic loupe (63x). Scanning electronic microscopy was used to analyse the toothlrestoration margin. The results were statistically analysed applying Fisher exact test. According to the results obtained we can conclude that generally, the amalgam restoration associated to resinous agents showed the smaller leveI of microleakage. When the mechanic brushing procedure was performed, any group was influenced, except the group restored with amalgam associated to SBMU Plus with mecharnc condensation, which showed the greatest leveI of microleakage, when brushed. The scanning electronic photomicrography showed that in groups mechanically brushed, noted a gap in the tooth/restoration margin
