Incidência de malformações congênitas em recém-nascidos em hospital geral, Dourados - MS no período de 2003 a 2007

Congenital defects or congenital malformations are terms used to describe the present development defects at the time of birth. It is estimated that approximately 2 to 3 per cent of newborns are bearers of one or more congenital malformations. In Brazil the hospital mortality related to congenital malformations in 2002 in the pediatric age group (0-19 years) was 3.33%. The aim of this study was describe the incidence of congenital malformations in newborns at Evangelical Hospital Dr. and Mrs. Goldsby King, Dourados MS, from 2003 to 2007. The study was descriptive, retrospective of secondary basis from the 12.312 registration record assisted hospital pregnant during the study period. Results showed an incidence of congenital malformations of 0.89%. A high percentage of pregnant women (45,45%) aged between 10 to 19 years, most pregnant women was maiden (54.5%), schooling between 4-7 years of study (53,64%), urban area residents (66,36%) and named- White 68,18%. Among newborn babies malformed 61,82% were males, 62,73% weight at birth greater than 2500g and 65% were born full term. In terms of physiological system if there was a predominance of nervous system malformations (33%) and musculoskeletal system (28%). Evolved to death 30% of newborns malformed. We stress the need for awareness of health professionals regarding the importance of notification and description of the cases, because only with the knowledge of reality we have efficient public policies targeted mainly the prevention of congenital malformations.
