RESUMO

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the impact of splenectomy, and ligature of the left gastric vein in young patients with hepatoesplenic schistosomiasis mansonic in the Stomach micro vessels using histomorphometric digital analysis. It was included five patients in the preoperative and 28 patients at different postoperative periods: 5 patients up to 2 years; 13 patients between 2 and 6; and 10 patients above of 6 years. It was obtained gastric antrum and body endoscopic mucosa. They were sent for histological routine. Histological slices were used for histomorphometric analysis of the following parameters: Mean vessel number for field, mean diameter and thickness of the vessel wall. From the results it was evident a significant decrease of the density and diameter of the vessels from patients from two years of postoperative to the superior period of 6 years. The data give support to the concept that the splenectomy and ligature of the left gastric vein decreases, at follow-up, the specific vascular chamges of portal hypertension in the stomach wall
