RESUMO

Resistance training (RT) has been subject of several scientific studies, since its application not only for aesthetic purposes, but in health promotion and sports activities. To understand the determinants of physical performance is necessary to analyze biochemical, biomechanical and physiological phenomena triggered as a result of each physical activity proposed. Due to the small number of published studies in this regard the main of this study was the identification of lactate threshold, ventilatory and electromyographic, in resistance exercise on biceps curl. Three methods (blood lactate concentration, ergospirometry and electromyography suitable) were simultaneously used to determine the thresholds. The coincidence between the methods was analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA and Bland-Altman, aiming the validation of surface electromyography (EMGS) as a suitable instrumentation. Thirteen youths aged 21.3 2.6 years and height 174.4 6.0 cm performed a dynamic incremental protocol spread over parts of 1RMs worklloads. Blood samples, ventilatory, heart rate and electromyographic suitable data were collected. The thresholds were determined by visual inspection of the curve of lactate, ventilation, oxygen and carbon dioxide equivalents and speed conduction of the nerve impulse over the time. At the end, the rates were expressed and compared in terms of VO2, HR, relative (%1RM) and absolute (kg) workload. Two points of change in the pattern of the curve in the three methods (L1 and L2) were identified. The EMGS was considered valid in determining L1 for all variables analyzed, considering lactate curve as the gold standard. However, for L2, the ergospirometry was reliable compared to the gold standard. More studies are necessary to develop a standard procedures involved in the determination and analysis of anaerobic thresholds.
