RESUMO

The selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde to cinnamic alcohol in the liquid phase was investigated over a series of catalysts based on platinum, supported on activate carbon and titanium dioxide, promoted with Fe and Sn. The catalysts with the following composition: 5% Pt, 4.7% Pt - 0.3% Fe and 4.16% Pt-0.84% Sn were prepared by co-impregnation. The catalysts supported on activated carbon were reduced at 430°C, while the ones supported on titanium dioxide were pre-reduced at different temperatures based on TPR (Temperature Programmed Reduction) experiments. The activation of the catalysts was done "in situ" over 2 hours under reaction conditions. The characterization of the catalysts was done by TPR, Electronic Scanning Microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction and Surface Area (BET). Catalytic tests of the reaction of hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde in the liquid phase were conducted under 60°C, hydrogen pressure of 4 MPa, using isopropanol and sodium acetate 0.1 N solution as a solvent. The results of the catalytic test showed that the use of titanium dioxide as a support increased significantly the selectivity of cinnamyl alcohol compared to the same catalysts supported on carbono The addition of Fe increased significantly the activity of the hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde
