RESUMO

The fatty acids are the principal collectors used in the anionic flotation of apatite. Two samples denominated partially hydrogenated Hidrocol and without hydrogenation Hidrocol, a sample of refined babassu oil, besides a sample of oleic acid, were characterized chemically through wet methods, by gaseous chromatography and infrared spectrometry. The partially hydrogenated Hidrocol and the without hydrogenation Hidrocol displayed almost the same composition in terms of fatty acids content, sugesting a not effective hydrogenation process; the infrared spectras were quite similar and the acidity index of the sample without hydrogenation was superior to the of the hydrogenated sample 152,48 and 134,67 mg KOH / g of sample, respectively, sugesting larger amount of free fatty acids. Microflotation tests were accomplished, in pH 10,4, with a fluorapatite sample from Monteiro-PB, using the soaps of the oils above mentioned, in the saponification degrees of 40, 55, 70, 85 and 100 %, except the babaçu oil that did not achieve saponification degree above 40 %. The soap of partially hydrogenated Hidrocol presented larger efficiency as collector and it reached larger floatability with the degree of saponification of 70 %. Bench scale rougher flotation tests were carried out, with ore samples from Tapira-MG, being varied the saponification degree of the collectors equally and in pH 9,5. Evaluating the P2O5 content, the P2O5 recovery, the ratio (CaO/P2O5) and the MgO content, the best results were achieved with the saponification degree of 55 %, for all the oils tested. Cleaner flotation tests were carried out in laboratory, in the absence and in the presence of the synthetic collector KE883B, a sulphosuccinate, for the vegetable oils with saponification degree of 55 %. In general, being compared with the rougher step, they increased the P2O5 contents and they diminished the P2O5 recoveries. Each oil presented a different behavior with the addition of the synthetic collector KE883B. For the oleic acid, they increased the P2O5 recoveries and they diminished the P2O5 contents, inverse to that was observed for the without hydrogenation Hidrocol. And for the partially hydrogenated Hidrocol, there was not significant variation in the results.
