RESUMO

The socio-spatial transformations occurred in geographic space are becoming increasingly accelerated in modernity. Thus, it is necessary to the development of research to promote a critical understanding of the contradictions found in the production of space. The use of techniques of geoprocessing as subsidy to the analysis of the dynamics of occupation and use of land was in satisfactory because of the agility and multiple possibilities for the integration of spatial data in a computer. Therefore, the development of this work was aimed at mapping and analyzing the evolution of the occupation and use of land in the subbasin of the Ribeirão dos Pires through the use of techniques of geoprocessing, from the viewpoint of the concept of the production of space, developed by Henri Lefebvre, allowing designing the space as a product of complex relationships established by the society. Despite the sub-basin be considered an area of environmental preservation because of the water springs that allow the water supply in Limeira, was found that the area is going through an expressive urban growth checked by the spread of blends intended to recreation locality. Furthermore, the lack of economic prospects on the part of farmers favours the irregular fragmentation of land for residential and promotes clear transformations resulting from the sugarcane expansion and declining citrus industry. See that the production of space in the sub-basin is a very uneven, limiting the ownership of the area by former residents of the area and promoting the value of exchange rather than the value of use. Observe that the portion integrated the urban perimeter of Limeira has shown changes in the configuration space resulting from the emergence of a new centrality aimed at more affluent society, showing the process of urban segregation in the sub-basin. The use of techniques of geoprocessing enabled the analysis of geographic data on a dynamic and effective, proving the capability of this technology to obtain information relevant to the analysis and territorial management
