RESUMO

Healthy leaves were collected of Avicennia schaueriana, Laguncularia racemosa and Rhizophora mangle during the dry (november/01 and february/02) and wet (june/02 and july/02) seasons from mangrove at the rio Paripe, Itamaracà Island, State of Pernambuco, Brazil with the objective of isolate the endophytic fungi present on them. Segments of leaves were superficially sterilized and transferred to Petri dishes with potato-dextrose-agar plus chloramphenicol and maintained at room temperature (28ÂÂ2ÂC). Twenty four taxa belonging to 19 genera and 15 different samples of white and dark Mycelia sterilia were isolated. Guignardia sp. and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides were the predominant species. Higher number of fungi were isolated during the dry season. L. racemosa hosted the highest number of endophytic fungi. Hormonema, Scopulariopsis and Sphaerosporium were reported as endophytic in tropical regions for the first time. Probably Chloridium virescens var. virescens, Microsphaeropsis arundinis, Penicillium pinophilum, Periconia cambrensis, Phoma herbarum, Phomopsis archeri, P. diachenii, P. obscurans, Sordaria prolifica and Torula elisii are being referred for the first time to tropical regions. A Guignardia species is probably new to science
