RESUMO

The study entitled Brazilian West Border: between contrasts and integration tried to analyze the motivations that took the definition of the international limits of Brazil and Bolivia according the Treated to Ayacucho of 1867 and the Treated of Petrópolis of 1903; comparing it with the process of nationalizations from the bordier space, in two moments: the first in the 1860 an the second, in the change from the 19th century to the 20th. This research goes among the traditions ant the new representations done by representatives of the Brazilian group dominant about the border, as part of the nation, and the politics of interventions in the international field as in the its search for insertion in the Brazilian and worldwide economy by the end of the 19th Century. At the same time, it shows the geopolitics interests related to this geographic space it also points the different levels of perception connected to the place: since a perception of transition, that shows the first years of the process of independence, when it started to get separated from the colonial view of the international border by two Empires by the idea of essential element for the union of the country fill it participating in the integration projects of the Brazilian state. This research observe the different kinds of nations and roles that the West Border takes, the role of the guards of the territorial possessions, started being recognized as a place of big possibilities for the economic field, also attracting foreign investment, so a capable place for progress. In last decade of the 19th century, the border started to raise the value with projects hoping to get its economical incorporation besides private investments; public politics draw by the Government also took place.
