RESUMO

Here, I analyzed the tree species of the Pernambuco Center of Endemism concerning its biogeographic and ecological traits, the factors that predict variation in the regional diversity, and factors that predicts extinction vulnerability. The analyses, who was dived into three chapters, were based on compilation of information about ecology and spatial distribution of tree species in the Pernambuco Center boundary, as well as its occurrences in other Brazilian biota. In the first chapter the results showed that the five vegetation types of this center of endemism have tree species with different fruits types and dispersal syndromes. In addition, the biotic interchange of this center with others Brazilian biota was ecologically differentiated and spatially directed for specific vegetation types. In the second chapter, the results showed that the species richens in the regional scale is not primarily dependent on rain fall. This factor was important only when I eliminated both original area and environmental heterogeneity of the vegetation types. Finally, in the last chapter I have found that 32.9% of the 583 tree species of the Pernambuco Center are strongly threatened, once they have only one populations in the region. The threatened species were found with different frequencies among the five vegetation types, among two altitude classes (<100 m; >100 m) and among two precipitation classes (<1000 mm/year; >1000 mm/year). The vulnerability was also related to fruit types, but not related to fruit size, dispersal syndrome or regeneration syndrome. In addition, most of the regionally vulnerable species are not in conservation unities boundaries. According to the results of this thesis, the biodiversity maintenance of the Pernambuco Center of Endemism depends fundamentally on simultaneous analyses concerning biogeography, ecology and conservation altogether
