Executivo de TI (CIO) versus executivo do conhecimento (CKO): um estudo comparativo baseada na anÃlise de atividades profissionais

RESUMO

The present work identified, from a bibliographical research, the main activities and competences of the chief knowledge officer and chief of IT, standing out its likeness and differences. After these analysis, a research with a sample of chiefs of IT was done due to verify if they execute some of the main activities that the chiefs of knowledge develop inside the organizations. A questionnaire with 27 activities of the chief knowledge officer was elaborated, which was answered by a sample of 52 chiefs of IT or equivalent positions. This sample consisted of people with high level of education, with practical experience in the IT area, with interest in Knowledge Management and of both sections: public and private. From the literature revision and the answers of the sample, some conclusions had been formulated, displayed as follow. Conclusion 1: According with the literature, similar and different activities exist between the chief of IT and the chief of knowledge, besides some challenges to be faced in its work days. Conclusion 2: Nineteen activities were pointed as activities executed by the chiefs of IT in their current work. The following three activities were considered as the most relevant,ranked by accomplishment: a) to facilitate the effective communication between its employees and other employees of the organization, b) to motivate its employees to create new knowledge that propitiate the generation of innovative solutions and c) to implement actions to motivate the use of the knowledge. Conclusion 3: chiefs of IT of the public section have different perceptions comparing to the private section. The respondents of the public section affirmed to execute with larger frequency (85%) the chief knowledgeâs activities when compared with the ones of the private section (59%). Conclusion 4: two activities of the total respondents were just considered rarely or never accomplished by the chiefs of IT (7,4%). These two activities were: a) quantify the value of the organizationâs intellectual capital and b) to verify that the knowledge is disseminated by all the organization. Conclusion 5: for those activities that were rarely or never pointed out with activities executed by the chiefs of IT, the respondents of the public section just affirmed not to execute the following activity: âquantify the value of the oraganizationâs intellectual capitalâ, on the other side, for the private section, beyond the same ones pointed out two other activities were assigned: âto develop studies of benchmarkingâ and âto verify that the knowledge is disseminated by all the organizationâ. Conclusion 6: it could be observed that the number of women in the position of CIO is still very reduced, being predominantly a masculine redoubt.
