RESUMO

The orthogneisses of the Ribeira Belt, in the Juiz de Fora area, were submitted to a sequence of geologic processes during times previous to Ett Brasiliano (tectono-thermal event), that generated this belt. The present study intends to recover and to reconstitute the geological evolution related to these processes. The units are distributed in two main tectonic domains (DTJF and DTAND) that were subdivided in three structural domains with specific characteristics. The metamorphic studies point to the existence of two high-grade metamorphic peaks associated to two different tectonic events. The last event is related to Ett Brasiliano, with ages around 610-490 Ma, and this affected the orthogneisses of the basement as well as Andrelândia Group supracrustal rocks, depositedbetween 1.0 and 0.6 Ga. The metamorphism reJated to the Ett Trans-Amazonian, dated at 2.2-1.9 Ga, affected only the basement orthogneisses. Peak P- T conditions for these event are considered to be 6-8 kb/750-8000C and 4-6kb/800-850°C respectively. The structures generated by Ett Brasiliano can be related to compressional tectonics of progressive nature, initially tangential with vergence of SE-NW, culminating with the formation of lenticular structures during the directional phase, of larger intensity. The analysis of pre-Brasiliano structures reveals pattems associated with low angle tectonics with related extensional shear zones. The fluid inclusions are typical of granulite facies, as they consist of 81 to 93% CO2 with moderate densities, varying between 0.79 and 0,.94 g/cm3, for the basement rocks; and 92 to 100% CO2, and moderate to high densities varying from 0.916 to 1.068 g/cm3 for the metasediments of DTJF. Chemical compositions of the orthogneisses in DTAND shows that these rocks can be assigned to two main sequences, holistic and calc-alkaline. It is possible that the rocks ofthe tholeiitic suite originated in intraplate environment, under lower crustal conditions, later on evolving to magmas enriched in incompatible elements. The proposed geological evolution involves extensional processes with magmatic intra and underplating, during Ett TransAmazonian, that provided COrrich fluids and the necessary heat for the granulite metamorphism. The [mal stage of the Ett Trans-Amazonian witnessed crustal thinning aided by erosion, which resulted in rifting of the upper crust and initiated intracratonic basin formation where Tiradentes, Lenheiro, Carandaí and Andrelândia Groups were deposited. After a long period of quiescence, compressive continental collision processes took place during the Ett Brasiliano and this juxtaposed the supracrustals and basement rocks. Intense anatetic processes in this period, removed large amounts of H2O from the system, enabling the met sediments to attain granulite facies
