RESUMO

This thesis studies the process and mechanisms of Supply-Chain changes in fast clockspeed industries, focusing the cyclical movements toward vertical integration and horizontal disintegration, according to Charles Fines Double Helix model. Other elements, derivate or inductors from these changes have also been studied such as outsourcing activities, growing and superior performance strategies adoption and the organizational change process itself. The chosen industry for this study is the network one, due to its strategic importance in the evolution of all other supply-chain industries. To make the research, an analysis model was developed to allow draw the historical of entire Network supply-chain evolution and for the specific 3 companies chosen for an deeply study, 3Com, Cisco and Juniper. The studys methodology was based on huge research of secondary data, which allows make the changes historical for the supplychains chosen companies and a data primary collect trough interviews with a questionnaire made based on the research model adopted. The research results reinforce the existence of a cyclical movement evolve from vertical integration to horizontal disintegration, and vice versa, in fast clockspeed industries and attest that different companies find themselves in distinct positions towards to these movement and that there is an alignment between their marketing strategies and their supply-chains configuration. The thesis shows the tendencies and menaces of these movements to the specific studied companies. Another topic studied in this work was the identification of a supposed adherence between Robert Tomaskos growth strategies model and Charles Fines double helix model, which should be certified by future studies.
