RESUMO

Splash is known as the process involved in a drop impact against a liquid surface. After the impact a crown-like and a cavity structures are formed as a result of the liquid deformation. Subsequently, a liquid column named Rayleigh jet arises from the collapse of the crown and the cavity. The presence of very small amount of high molecular weight polymers leads to changes on the morphologies of the splash. Polymeric solutions submitted to a turbulent flow results in high levels of drag reduction. The levels of drag reduction can be measured trough the ratio between the height of the polymeric solution jet and the pure solvent. Splash in polyelectrolyte aqueous solutions as PAM, PAA e co-PAM-PAA, in which the chain flexibility and the gyration radius can be changed by changing the pH and ionic strength was studied in this work. The results have been discussed considering some molecular models that deal with the drag reduction phenomenon.
