RESUMO

Phytochemical investigation of Eleocharis acutangula, E. interstincta and E. sellowiana extracts had furnished by GC/MS eight long chain alkanes, eighteen fatty acid esters, dihydroactinidiolide, three sesquiterpenes, phytone, neophytadiene, the acetates of octadecanol and three sugars and some phtalates. Using MS, 1D- (RMNH, C, DEPT, NOESY 1D e TOCSY 1D) AND -2D (gCOSY, HSQC, HMBC) NMR techniques, five triterpenes, five steroids, E-phythyl hexadecanoate and two mixtures of sucrose derivatives were elucidated. Three new compounds had been identified as neohop-13(18)-en-3a-ol, 3a-hydroxy-13a,17a,21a-hopan-15,19-dione and stigmast-22-en-3b,6b,9a-triol. This is the first relate of floral volatiles identified in the Eleocharis genus and even in Cyperaceae family. AlI extracts were tested for antimicrobial activity (Bioautography method), citotoxicity (Brine Sbrimp Lethality bioassay) and molluscicidal activity against Biomphalaria glabrata, the intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni. The hexanic extract of E. sellowiana (fresh subterraneous parts) was active against the fungus Alternaria alternata and the hexanic extract of E. acutangula (fresh subterraneous parts) was active in the BSL bioassay (LC50 = 476 mg/mL), while the other extracts showed LC50 >>10.mg/mL. The aqueous ethanolic extract of E. sellowiana (fresh subterraneous parts) was active against B. glabrata spawns (LC50 = 24.27 mg/mL).
