RESUMO

This research work reports the study of a system of a solar collector and a bin for grain drying. It was developed mathematical simulations to present the transient and steady state phenomena applied to two kinds of plane solar collectors. The first type of solar collector was covered with plastic sheet and the second kind had the absorbent plate directly exposed to the solar radiation and to the environment. For the solar collector covered with plastic sheet it was studied heat losses due to infrared radiation between the collector and the environment through the plastic sheet. For the interpretation of the theoretical analysis it was utilized data obtained from a collector 20m long, 3m wide and 0.10m thick for air passage. Air fluxes were 50, 100 and 150 m3/min. It was also used different thickness for insulating material and for plastic cover. For the mathematical simulation of the grain drying it was used the model due td Morey with the introduction of thin layer due to Misra and Brooker. In drying it was used 3, 10 and 50 ton of corn with 20% w.b. process initial moisture content and 13% w.b. for final moisture content. For the experimental procedure it was used solar collector 10m long, 2m wide and 0.10m thick for the air passage. The plastic cover was made of P.V.C. 0.40mm thick and a insulating material made of a layer of 10.5cm thick and a second layer of soil, 51cm thick. The tests were conducted in three different days and air f1uxes were 28, 27 and 23 m3/min. In the experimental procedure for drying it used 640kg of corn with an initial moisture content of 17% w.b. and an average final moisture content of 10.76% w.b.
